State sees tornado drought

Iowa hasn?t seen a tornado since May 24, 2012, when one hit Fayette County.

That means the state has gone 350 days without a twister. The average number of tornadoes in Iowa each year is 47.

Rod Donavon of the National Weather Service said to go a year without a tornado is ?almost unbelievable.?

If the state doesn?t have a tornado touch down by next Wednesday, Iowa will break the record for its longest stretch in the state?s history.

That record has stood for more than 50 years.
