A business book is a powerful way of building an international strategy. Once the book is published it has the potential to attract incremental sales, build licensing incomes and build an e-commerce venture. James Noon, a leading business ghost writer at www.jamesnoon.co.uk explains how?
Background to the client case example
This client sells management training services. Its clients are large international ?blue chip? companies. This client met the criteria for using a business book as a growth strategy ? see the article, ?Would a book help to grow your business?? at www.jamesnoon.co.uk/library
The international strategy
The strategy had a number of components that would come together over a number of years. First, the 200+ page business book encapsulating the company?s approach was written and self-published leading to incremental training sales. Then, the book was developed into a range of licensing materials in readiness for developing master licensees in selected countries. This produced license fees and then continuous royalties back to the UK.
Then, a specific e-commerce website was developed and the book was converted into a series of paid-for online seminars and an online coaching and a community section for all clients, licensees and course participants. Finally, the book, now successful, was then presented to a reputable international business book publisher with the view of making sales in airport lounges, bookshops and web outlets in the major developed economies.
Finding a publisher
An essential part of the strategy was to present the book to a reputable international publisher. This is never easy and it is never guaranteed ? nowadays, publishers are very selective.
Publishers can be approached directly but it helps if an agent is used and a full business case provided for presentation to the publishers. Good publishers need to see a plan in action before they will commit to publishing a book.
The results
This was not a cheap strategy. A great deal of time and money made the whole thing work. But, over time it made the business a sector-leading business and provided a significant return on investment.
